Permanent Visas: Researchers, Foreign Investors and Senior Executives

Visas for EXPERTS AND RESEARCHERS are to be filed in Brazil by a Brazilian contracting party with the labor authorities.

The following are the requirements for this type of visa:

  • a statement of the contracting party's interest in acquiring the applicant's professional services or copy of the relevant work contract;

  • a recent transcript of the applicant's résumé in threefold along with copies of main academic titles.

Visas for FOREIGN INVESTORS AND SENIOR EXECUTIVES are to be filed in Brazil by the applicants or their duly empowered representatives with the appropriate federal authorities or with a free-trade zone's immigration council, when funds are to be invested in such zones.

The following are the requirements:

  • copies of the applicant's personal and professional identification documents and those pertaining to dependents, if any;

  • power of attorney to a representative prepared at a public notary's office;

  • a recent transcript of the applicant's résumé;

  • for investors, an investment plan in a new business or in the expansion of an existing one (with a copy of its social charter, license to operate and proof of tax compliance), including an initial transfer of a minimum of US$50,000 and a commitment to employ Brazilian work force;

  • foreign capital investment permit issued by the Brazilian Central Bank;

  • work permits for senior executives and validation of their work contracts by the labor authorities.

NOTES:
I.

The applicable consular fees for the legalization of documents will be charged when the documents are presented to the Consulate. All consular fees must be paid in U.S. POSTAL MONEY ORDER made payable to the Consulate General of Brazil.  Cash, credit cards and personal checks  are NOT accepted.

Once the visa is approved, the applicant will be called to the Consulate to have the visa issued. Applicants should bring the original passport, two recent photographs (NO SNAPSHOTS, please), fill out two visa application forms and pay a US$200.00 visa fee. American passport holders will be charged an extra US$130.00 non-refundable Visa Processing Fee. If the applicant does not come in person to the Consulate, there is another US$10.00 absence fee. All consular fees must be paid in U.S. POSTAL MONEY ORDER made payable to the Consulate General of Brazil.  Cash, credit cards and personal checks  are NOT accepted. 

The visa must be used within 90 days from the date it was issued, meaning the applicant HAS TO ENTER BRAZIL BEFORE THE 90 DAYS ARE OVER, otherwise the visa expires. The applicant MUST REGISTER WITH THE BRAZILIAN FEDERAL POLICE WITHIN 30 DAYS AFTER ENTERING BRAZIL.

Please note that the permanent visa implies that the applicant desires to RESIDE PERMANENTLY IN BRAZIL. If the holder of a permanent visa, even after all registration procedures in Brazil have been completed, leaves the country for more than two years in a row, THE VISA WILL EXPIRE, THE BRAZILIAN ALIEN RESIDENT CARD WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE REVOKED AND THE PERSON WILL HAVE TO RE-APPLY FOR A NEW PERMANENT VISA.

An International Immunization Certificate against yellow fever is required if the traveler has been to any of the following countries within the last 90 days or will visit any of them before entering Brazil: Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Guyana, Ethiopia, French Guiana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda and Venezuela.
