Foreign Production in Brazil

Foreign audiovisual production businesses that intend to carry out work in Brazil may only do so by means of first establishing contact with a Brazilian production company which will apply for the authorization for filming in Brazil to the Ministry's of Culture Secretariat for the Development of Audiovisuals. The whole process is simple and quickly approved after the fulfillment of the legal requirements.

The required steps are:

1. Foreign producers must sign a contract with a Brazilian producer
2. The Brazilian producer must deliver copies of the contract to the Ministries of Culture and of Labor containing names, passport numbers, citizenship and job description of the crew members, as well as place of departure, list of equipment and expected duration of stay in Brazil. Since it is mandatory that one third of the crew must be composed by Brazilian citizens, the Brazilian prodution company must ensure that this requirement is also fulfilled.
3. Once all the proper documentation is presented to the Secretariat for the Develpment of Audiovisuals (Ministry of Culture) the necessary authorization for filming in Brazil will be granted within a period of seven days. The Ministry of External Relations will then advise the Brazilian Consulate nearest to the city where the crew is based that the appropriate business visas may be issued. Only after that the Brazilian Consulate will issue the visas to the foreign crew intending to travel to Brazil.

Please note that filming and visiting Indian areas must be pre-arranged with the National Indian Foundation (FUNAI).
