The
city of Rio de Janeiro will host the UN Conference
on Sustainable Development in 2012. The meeting was
called Rio+20, and aims at renewing the commitment
of world leaders in sustainable development of the
planet, twenty years after the United Nations
Conference on Environment and Development (Rio-92).
It will be discussed: the contribution of the "green
economy" to sustainable development and elimination
of poverty - focusing on the question of the
structure of international governance in the area of
sustainable development. Rio+20 falls well within
the tradition of previous UN meetings on the
subject, including the Conference of 1972 in
Stockholm, Sweden, and 2002 in Johannesburg, South
Africa.
